Its a good day!
So here is the newest scoop.
First off he is growing more independent every day. He goes to all of his therapies by himself. I follow shortly after but he knows where they are and follows his own schedule. All of his meals are taken in the cafeteria now. He readies himself for bed on his own as well.
Physical Therapy – His balance is great. He is always on the “Surfboard” therapy machine. He pushes him self very hard on the NeuStep. He is up to 1500 steps at level 6 resistance. He sweats good when he is on there! HA! And today?! HE RAN! Yep, actually fast stride, leaning forward, arm swinging, RUN! WOOHOO!!!!
Occupational Therapy – He is making good progress here as well. His right arm strength is slowly but surely coming back. His grip is stronger as well. He can independently touch his thumb to both his index and middle fingers. His coordination is still off… Tried to play XBox this weeks and it didn’t work so well. He can do all of the basic tasks w his left had now though. Writing, eating and everything else he does very well. If his right never makes it back all the way he will be just fine. He has become almost completely left handed. His vision is OK. Still some doubling and blurriness. His peripheral vision on the right is all but gone and his left eye is just weak all around.
Speech Therapy - This is his biggest hurdle. He is definitely improving. He can read most monosyllabic words out loud. But he still needs phonemic cues to spontaneously speak. It will be a long road I can tell. But he is very hardworking and wants it more than anything I think.
I am so proud of him. He has been through more than anyone I know and he still smiles and laughs. He misses his friends and family I know. He gets a little agitated if he is alone at all. So I try to stick by him constantly in the off hours. It does us both good to not be alone.
Anyways it is a beautiful day in Lincoln and we don’t wanna be inside all day.

its me. i miss you alot. well we all do. i am so happy that you are getting better. talk to us some more. i really like hearing that you are getting better. when you were getting better and then worse i got really scared cause i didnt know and you werent here to tell us everything would be just fine.I am so happy that you are getting better and hopefully here soon you will be able to read these and know i care alot. you have been one of my best friends and i dont want you to scare me like that again. Michael and chris and i got really upset when i told them what was going on with you.i want you to get better cause i will have to visit when you get back. i moved to haysville so i will have to see you guys on the weekend and hopefully we can pick up right where we left off. I want us to because you were funny and i loved that about you!!!!!!!!

I read these to Samuel every time he gets one. He really likes ones from his friends alot.
He wants to see you and Michael and Chris badly. He really misses you guys.
Ask your parents to send me an email. I want you guys to get together when we come home to visit in a few weeks. Maybe some pizza or something?

Keep writing! he really loves it. I will ask him to write some more tomorrow, OK? Its very hard for him, but he tries.

Sam is ding well. His pain is all but gone and everyday he gets better and better. We will soon be in outpatient therapy here at Madonna. Sam already said he would be happy to come back and visit, so we will see what we can do.
Additionally we are open for visitors almost any night after 6pm. Swing by room 135 at Madonna and say hi! He may or may not remember everyone, but anyone visiting makes him happy.
Thank you all. My son is alive and well thanks to your tireless efforts. You have all the love in my heart for that.
